Jazz Night #2 in New Orleans

Wednesday night, we went out for our second evening of jazz in New Orleans.  In contrast to Tuesday, when we tried funk/jazz at Snug Harbor, this night we looked for more traditional New Orleans jazz.

We walked around the French Quarter before dinner, and landed at Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop, a bar and jazz bistro at the corner of Bourbon Street and St. Philip Street.  We shared a beer and watched the crowds walk by.  Happy us were surprised by a horde of joggers running down Bourbon Street "en costume."  We saw Batmen, Catwomen, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Green Lanterns, and many more caped crusaders.

Here's a photo of Kathy enjoying the ambience at Lafitte's:

Leaving Lafitte's and heading further toward our dinner venue at Frenchmen and Decatur Street, we happened by d.b.a. on Frenchmen Street, and had a chance to enjoy some funky stuff from Washboard Chaz and The Tin Men.  Here's a brief video to give you an idea of their style:

After an hour or so of such fun, off we went to dinner at the Palm Court Jazz Cafe to hear some traditional New Orleans jazz standards performed by Lars Edegran, Topsy Chapman and the Palm Court Jazz Band.  Here's a video with a brief sample of the band before it got wound up:

This wasn't too late a night - we got home before 10:30, in time to get a full night's sleep before another day out the next morning.
