And so it is our last day in Indian Lake - and indeed in the Adirondacks this year. Tomorrow we move on to a campground near Canandaigua Lake.
This is a pretty little campground, in a funky little mountain community - not too touristy at all. One local contends that nearby on the lake is a community of cabins owned by actors, including Sigourney Weaver. We were too lazy - and too interested in not being arrested for stalking - to go out and directly verify that. But the source was unimpeachable, so we are sure it is true.
There are many reasons to come back here. Most important is that there are lots of hiking trails and fire towers we haven't reached yet. Almost equally, this location is convenient to lots of other interesting areas in the Adirondacks, and we know we want to come back.
Here are a few additional photos and recollections from our visit.
A pretty little church up on a hill above our campground:
Our next cabin:
The local visitor center, complete with mascot moose and Adirondack chair:
Kathy playing with old farm equipment:
The Pig II Deli, where we ate a scrumptious breakfast this morning and, after hitting some golf balls on the driving range, a yummy lunch of scalloped potatoes and ham:
And, finally, in tribute both to this little community, and to Risa, who was the first (and only) to make the connection, here is a link to that great Cowsills 1968 song, "Indian Lake" as a way to say goodbye to this wonderful little corner of the Southern Adirondacks.
