Taking a Land Cruise

Yesterday morning, we awoke to this big bus thingy in our campground.  As we nursed our coffee, we strolled over and asked one of the occupants what it was all about.  They were German tourists - there were 23 of them, along with a bus driver and a tour guide.  They are on a 4 week tour of the U.S., riding from Los Angeles to New York City, and were staying 2 nights at our campground to see the Grand Canyon.  The whole back of the bus (the little windows in one photo and the tent-like construction in the other photo) is sleeping for 26 people.  Then they each have seats in the front of the bus for touring during the day.  In one photo, you'll see that they have lots of little folding tables so that they can all have breakfast or dinner together in whatever campground they are staying at.

The Germans said that the buses are run by a German tour company called Rotel (for "rolling hotel" - get it?)  They said Rotel runs perhaps half a dozen of these buses around the U.S. at any given time.

Quite cool!  Almost as cool as seeing the WWF tour buses in the campground outside Pittsburgh last year.
