Another Day in Quartzsite

This was our fifth morning in Quartzsite, and we've gotten into a pretty easy rhythm.  Our neighbor fires up his generator around 6:30 a.m., which in turn wakes us and the cats.  We open the window, take a look at the slowly brightening, but still dark, sky.  We crawl out of bed, take our Baby Wipe shower, dress, and David goes out to start the generator.  With the power from the generator, we are able to brew coffee with our Hot Shot.  With the coffee brewed and the litter box cleaned, we take our mugs of coffee out for a walk across the desert and among the rigs.  Here are our l-o-n-g shadows greeting the morning and some of the neighboring rigs:

Our little band of trucks and trailers has grown from eight - when we arrived last Wednesday - to over twelve.  We have quite a compound, and one that we can't photograph without a panorama view.  So here is a panoramic view of our Heavy Hauler members, all pulled up together and spanning across the desert floor:

One of the better known events at Quartzsite is the big tent RV show running in mid-January.  It started this last Saturday.  We decided to delay heading over to the show until today in order to avoid the legendary weekend crowds.

We arranged with our friends Connie and Karen to meet them at our campsite and bicycle over to the RV show.  They drove about 90 miles up from Winterhaven, California and arrived around 10:30.  As planned, we mounted our bikes and pedaled over to the big tent.  The rest of the afternoon was spent browsing the vendor tents and booths, looking at everything that could possibly be bought or sold for RV's.

We paused for lunch - David has a sausage on a roll and Kathy a veggie wrap - then continued our prowl around the vendor areas.  Kathy picked up the vanity plate she had air-brushed for the truck - a picture of a shark looming out of the water with "Great White" written across his open jaws:

After padding up and down the aisles of vendor booths and tents, we cycled back to our campsite.  Our friends Eric and Ginny joined Connie, Karen and us, and the six of us enjoyed a happy hour en plein air, followed by a little dinner in our rig.

We bade goodbye to our dear friends and closed up shop - another day boondocking in Quartzsite with many of our friends.
