Deadman's Cove - Harbour Breton, Newfoundland

Today we moved to Deadman's Cove RV Park in Harbour Breton, Newfoundland -- way down on the Connaigre Peninsula.  This is way off the beaten track -- witnessed by the fact that almost no one else was in this campground -- which is hard to believe because the scenery is drop-dead gorgeous!

Here is Buster hanging out in the seaside meadows below some magnificent rocky humps:

Ruby the Adventure Cat was also inspired by the beauty of this place.  She leaped out of the RV and headed up into the grasses and wildflowers of the meadow behind our motorhome --

-- while David, ambling along behind her spotted this little wildflower and couldn't resist stopping to appreciate it:

After we set up camp and Ruby had had her walk, we ourselves walked out to Deadman's Cove Beach to see what we could see.  It was gorgeous:

We strolled down to the beach and started walking along the shore of the rising tide.  The weather is just spectacular today, with a fresh breeze, temperatures around 69F, and bright sun:

Kathy led the way in our hunt for sea glass.  While the beach seemed like a good candidate for sea glass, what with the strong waves and the sandy/gravelly composition, we really couldn't find much sea glass.

However, we did find a beautiful beach with lots of natural treasures:

We made our way out to Gull Island, where there is an interesting indigenous habitation site and bird nesting grounds -- but the tide was too high for us to get out to it:

The spirited waves rolled up along the shore as we walked and made a thrumming beat behind us as we strolled:

Eventually, we made our way to the Mile Pond Trail, which winds above the beach, and climbed to where stairs descend to meet a rivulet as it tumbled down to the beach and into the cove:

We followed the trail back toward our campground, turned, and gazed back at the staircase to the west of us:

Working our way back to our campground, we decided that this will be a pretty dramatic and scenery-filled stop, here on the Coast of Bays.  Be sure to check our next blog entries to get more of this very unusual and beautiful country.
