Biking Along Kalamalka Lake

Because we spent our first day in the Vernon area paddling nearby Echo Lake, we wanted to get to know our immediate area, and so, on our second day, Tuesday, June 27, 2017, we focused locally.

We started with a coffee walk on the hiking trail above our campground at Kekuli Bay Provincial Park.  The trail led to a great spot for looking south, down Kalamalka Lake:

Once we had returned from our coffee walk and had digested breakfast, we joined Tony and Dee Dee for a bike ride north along the shore of the lake into Vernon.   Tony led the way:

Our campground was about 9 kilometers from town, so we started with a beautiful ride along a former railroad right-of-way.  Eventually, we made it to "Mile 0" in Vernon:

Tony heard that Alexander's, a restaurant on the lakefront, might be a good spot for lunch, so we pedaled over there for a meal.  Here are Tony and Dee Dee making the lunchtime toast:

After lunch, Dee Dee and Tony headed back to the campground to run some errands, while Kathy and David continued biking further uptown in Vernon to pick up some German sausage and beer at two well-recommended sources.

We spent a couple of hours in heavy city traffic, but it was worth it.  With our sausage and beer in hand, we headed home to the campground.  On our way back down the lake, we caught sight of Rattlesnake Point, jutting down into the lake to the east of town:

A goose family swam by, curious about our activity.  Their young ones are clearly getting older, which speaks to the passing summer season:

Closer to our campground, we paused for a sip of water and one last look at the lake before finishing an interesting 22 mile bike ride:
