On Wednesday, August 17, 2016, we had a picnic lunch by the Athabasca River. On our way to the trailhead for the Old Fort Loop Trail, we ran into this fellow eating his lunch.
The trail description for this short scenic hike didn't mention anything about climbing several flights of stairs!
Just when we thought we were up, there was more up to go.
At the very top, there were more stairs.
Our reward for all that up - great views of the Athabasca River.
The town of Jasper is down there somewhere.
The descent down the backside of the lookout was not at steep, but the views were just as spectacular.
We slowly made our way back down to the tree line and headed off into the woods.
Before long we found ourselves at another viewpoint complete with Red Chairs!
After relaxing and soaking in the views, it was time to hit the trail again.
One more look at the amazing valley before heading down into the forest.
The afternoon heated up and it felt good to be hiking in the mossy woods.
The dappled sun highlighted a spider web high in the trees.
And so ends another great little hike.
