Before the flood:
After - you can't even see where we were standing. The fencepost corner in the foreground of the photo below is the same as the fence in the left background in the photo above. Poor little William would have been over his head if he stood in the same place today!
This was the tenting area. We meet one camper who evacuated just before the water came over the banks. His tent was soaked from all the rain. The campground put him in one of the cabins.
Here is a link to give you an idea of how fast the water was running - Brandywine in flood.
We took a quick stroll down to the preserve where we had been running laps in preparation for the Broad Street Run. The Brandywine Creek was now flowing through the bottom half of our race course, and you can see it in the distance on this side of the concrete ramp that leads up to Embreeville Road.
We checked in on one of our neighbors. He still had high ground near his barn. He was not sure what all the fuss was about.
However, the next door neighbors had to be moved from the pasture out back to the front yard in order to stay high and dry.
I wish I could say we stayed high and dry. We walked through the pasture we normally run in, and what appeared to be just a grass field ending up being a swamp. The only good thing about all that water was that it washed all the mud off our boots!
Despite the above evidence and our dire warnings of the wet mucky nature of the preserve, it did not deter this Dad and Son, as they took their faithful companion "Barkley" for his walk.
On our way back to camp, we made a side trip to see the Stargazers' Stone. More on that in the next blog post.
Now if we can just get our boots dried out:
