Hiking to Tumalo Falls near Bend, Oregon

Today is Labor Day, September 2.  After the excitement of whitewater rafting yesterday, the young people took a little break.  Jeff took Chelsea out to the Deschutes River to show her how to paddleboard.  The little McHughs got some time off from intense family activity.  Sam, Kim and Laila are back home, preparing for their big vacation.

Leslie suggested we take a mellow hike up to Tumalo Falls, west of Bend.  She, Mike and we had perfect weather and got an early start.

Here's Kathy with the lower falls in the background:

David took his turn in the lens in front of one of the upper falls:

The water flow was strong and the stream tumbled and burbled below us with cool, clear water:

Mike and Leslie were trying out some new hiking gear, including an EnduraCool "bandana" made of microfibers, which stay damp and cool even in hot sun.  Here's Mike modeling his EnduraCool and his Significant Other in front of the falls:

Back in Bend, we stopped for a healthy lunch at Mother's Cafe Westside, then parted ways to catch up on chores and naps before having a great dinner at Worthy Brewing.  We've decided that visits with family can generally be defined as short hops from meal to meal.  If this is true, our remaining time in Bend is bound to be (burp) ful-filling!
