Here are (L to R) David and Kathy Scranton, Dan Podheiser and his father Jim:
In addition to these, Eileen Miller, former secretary in the Malvern office attended with her husband Tom, who was representing Wawa, a Phillies corporate sponsor. Wawa has just opened five new stores in the Tampa-Clearwater area, and Tom made it his business to help spread the word in Florida.
All were dressed seasonably, as the temperature was a balmy 52F, with gusty winds. Jim pointed out that Dave'n'Kathy could be more warmly dressed because the Podheisers only had the clothes they brought down in the suitcase, but the Scrantons, "Carry all your clothes with you."
No sooner had the Scrantons sat down with the Millers, when Gary Bagin popped over:
Kathy was anguished, and Gary closed his eyes, because Ryan Howard had just struck out. The only reason we can give for Gary smiling must have been that he is secretly a Toronto fan.
You'll be happy to know that the game ended well. The Phillies beat Toronto 13-5. All the Stradleyites departed chilly but happy - except for Tom, who complained that Wawa deducted $100 from his salary for every Phillies home run.
After the ball game, we got this photo of the Millers, with Kathy, in front of their rental car. Today is the Millers' last day visiting us, and you can see that the visit has worked wonders on all of them:
Tom and Eileen head home tonight. We had rollicking fun with them and really enjoyed their visit. Safe travels home, you two!
