G&E Bring Good Things to . . .

Schroon Lake, New York! More specifically, to our RV in the Jellystone Adirondack Mountain RV Park. We eagerly awaited the arrival of Eric and Ginny LaJuene on Friday, September 19, 2014. Dave captured the moment in a You Tube Video. G&E live just down the road near Schenectady, New York. They arranged to come up in their RV and spend a long weekend. They brought with them, a box full of really great beers from Oliver's Brew Crew in Albany.  To get an idea of the wonder that is Oliver's one needs only to click on the link to Ginny's Blog. Unfortunately, we were so busy eating bowls of chili and drinking that we forgot to take pictures of our happy reunion on Friday. However, Ginny captured the moment in her blog.

On Saturday, we got up bright and early and hit the tourist trail.  Our first stop was the Adirondack Buffalo Farm. Here is the view from the deck of their store.

Here Eric and Kathy take in the view, while Ginny and David snap some photos.  After taking in the fall scenery, we shopped till we dropped, filling our baskets with all kinds of local goodies including fresh veggies and bison steaks and burgers.

Here is one last look before we hit the road.  It was a bit overcast, but the sun managed to peek out a few times to give us a little fall color.

Our next stop took us to Blue Ridge Falls.  The falls are part of "The Branch" of Schroon River near North Hudson.

From here, we headed south to Warrensburg - Home of Oscar's Smokehouse. We learned about Oscar's from our numerous visits to Grandma's Kitchen in Albany, New York. We asked them where they got their breakfast sausage and they told us - Oscar's.  We have made numerous trips up to the Adirondacks when Katie was attending McGill in Montreal. We always found time to stop and fill our cooler with Oscar's sausage.  Now it was our turn to introduce Eric and Ginny to the wonder that is Oscar's!

We filled our baskets with all sorts of goodies and then began a walking tour of downtown Warrensburg.  Now you may not know this, but Warrensburg is famous for hosting The Worlds Largest Garage Sale. It is coming up in a few weeks and signs are already up all over town offering folks prime locations for their dealers tables.

After finding a nice lunch spot to quash our appetites and quench our thirsts, we continued our adventure.  Next stop, the Adirondack Balloon Festival. It was held at the airport near Glens Falls.  Here are Kathy, Eric and Ginny hanging out at the windsock. It was a bit overcast and the wind was gusting.  Everyone was hoping they would be able to launch on time. The big liftoff was scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

We had about an hour or so wait, so we took a tour of all the vendor tents and checked out some of the balloon baskets on display. You gotta love this guy's balloon hat!

Here we are eagerly awaiting lift off:

Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not want to cooperate. By 5:30 p.m., it was obvious the weather was just too windy to launch any balloons.  A few did inflate, but none took off.  We joined the long line of spectators leaving the airfield. We returned to camp and drowned our sorrows with several bottles of delicious craft beer (and wine).

Sunday was boat ride day! Schroon Lake, here we come! We packed a lunch and rented a big pontoon boat. We booked the boat for two hours.  No three-hour tour for us --- not that we are superstitious or anything. Here Eric, Ginny and Kathy sit back and relax as we began our nine mile journey.

The lake was a bit choppy from the wind, but the views were great.  There were a number of large "cottages" all along the lake shore. We kept trying to find Eric his perfect house, but none of them had wraparound porches. We'll keep looking.

We returned to camp and started a campfire.  We grilled the bison burgers we picked up from the Adirondack Buffalo Farm.  They were outstanding.

We don't have much to report about Monday since we were a little tired of being tourists and decided to just stay in camp for the day. We had a rousing Chuckluck Championship in the afternoon, around our picnic table as Baxter explored the underside of Eric and Ginny's rig.

However, as the afternoon turned into evening, it grew a little too chilly for sitting out, so we had dinner in Eric and Ginny's motorhome. We enjoyed spending more time with Bobby, now that he is out of the closet.

On Tuesday morning, we wished a fond farewell to Ginny, Eric and Bobby! We can't wait until our RV paths cross again.
