Today is a logistics day. We go grocery shopping, refill propane, get diesel for the truck, do some cleaning, and focus on other chores. We try to group them all into one day to maximize our time to go out and explore during the rest of our stay in a campground.
But that doesn't stop us from musing about the place we're visiting.
This is our first time in Alabama, and we were curious about songs or artists associated with Alabama. Luckily, there's an Alabama Music Hall of Fame, which has kept track of many musicians hailing from Alabama. The Alabama State Archives include a list.
One of David's favorite current bands, Alabama Shakes, hails from Athens, Alabama. But there are many surprises, including Nat King Cole, for example, who was born here in Montgomery.
We thought there might be a museum in his honor, but, to our disappointment, the museum folded a few years ago when the founder died.
We also tried another approach. Maybe we can find songs about Alabama. Here are six we think particularly notable. Enjoy!
"Alabama," by the Louvin Brothers
"Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)," by The Doors
"Alabama Getaway," by The Grateful Dead
"Stars Fell on Alabama," with a video showing great musical artists from Alabama
"Alabama," by John Coltrane
"Sweet Home Alabama," by Lynyrd Skynyrd
