Eddie n George n Dave n Kathy Wake Up at Mile 0

Being at Mile "0" of the Alaska Highway is a big deal to the city of Dawson Creek, British Columbia.  They have at least FOUR signs commemorating that fact, two visitor centers on the subject, and two different  1-hour documentary films on the building of the Alcan Highway.  The boys and we enjoyed every minute of exploring all of that.

Here are the boys at the original, historic Mile 0 Post, which has been relocated from its original position at the intersection of Highways 2 and 97.  The boys thought it most appropriate that they start with the original sign.

Next, the boys wanted their photo with the original Canadian NWHS (North Western Highway System) sign commemorating Dawson Creek as the start of the Alaska Highway.  Pay no attention to that woman behind the sign.  Also, please don't bother zooming in on George and figuring out what that strange thing is that he's sporting.

Kathy and David had to get in on the act, so we took a selfie at the Visitor Center sign which attracts all the attention.  David was so awe-struck by the idea that we were entering the Alaska Highway, he had to close his eyes in disbelief:

As if all that commemoration weren't enough, just outside our campground, perched on a hill to the south of the city, is a big sign welcoming those arriving in Dawson Creek from the south, and making sure they know they are coming to Mile "0":

The two documentaries were very interesting, so we spent the better part of today just watching those videos and looking at the various exhibits on the Alaska Highway.

A fitting way to memorialize our last steps on the Alaska Highway, and the symbolic end of our "North to Alaska" adventure.  Now we turn our thoughts to what is coming next:  the Canadian Rockies!
